TSELUNA TREK

The Tseluna trek is an easier, low altitude alternative, following a route over 4 days that passes below the high lakes. One point of interest is a visit to a small 14th-century temple near to Tseluna village, where the Guru Rinpoche is said to have mediated. Best time to go trekking in the month of March to June and September to November.

Day 1- Paro to Jili Dzong

Day 2- Jili Dzong to Tselu Pang

Day 3- Tshelu Pang to Thimphu or Paro (Optional)

Day 1- Paro to Jili Dzong

Trek Rating: Moderate.

Maximum Altitude: 3570m

Duration: 4-5 hours

After breakfast, you will drive through the road until the end of the motor road in the Dop-Shari village and the trek trail is a gradual climb till your camp. If the weather is clear then you can view the beautiful Paro Valley, snowcapped mountains and Mt. Jumolhari (7314m). The trek takes you through the beautiful natural green forest. As you climb higher you will reach Jili Dzong, a small fortress and a tented camp are usually set up below the Jili Dzong.

Jili Dzong was built in the early 16th century and not so huge in size like other Dzongs in the valley. During the 1960s all the travelers took this route but later when the vehicle road connected Paro Valley and Thimphu since then the route is frequented only by the nomads and the tourists.

Inside the Dzong, there is a beautiful statue of Buddha. If you reach early at the campsite, you can view the beautiful sunset but if you miss the sunset, you have the chance to view the next morning sunrise.

 

Day 2- Jili Dzong to Tselu Pang

Overnight: Camping 

Early morning you can view the beautiful sunrise. After the breakfast, the trek takes you through the magnificent rhododendron and pine trees. While you trek you can also get a beautiful view of Jiminang Village and Jiminang Monastery. It’s up climbs trek till you reach your campsite and the tents will be pitched on the ground known as Tselu Pang (Pang means ground)

 

Day 3- Tshelu Pang to Thimphu or Paro (Optional)

Maximum Altitude: 3800m

Duration: 4-5 hours

Lunch: Picnic

Overnight: Camping

Last day of your trek starts from Tshelu Pang to Thimphu, where you trek through Phajoding monastery until Mothithang, Thimphu.

From this trekking trail, you have to gradually climb up till Pumola (3715m) and then descend down to the Phajoding monastery (3690m). When you reach Phajoding monastery, you will see the beautiful view of Thimphu and it will definitely be a treat to one’s eye. From Phajoding to Thimphu you have to trek down till Mothithang where your trek ends and from there, your driver will drive you to your hotel.

“OR” you can either trek through Tshelu Pang to Paro, this route takes you through Jiminang Village. The trek trail takes you down the Jiminang School and you can view the beautiful view of Jiminang Village, Tseluna village and Tseluna monastery that was built in the 18th century. The trek ends in Tseluna School and from there, your driver will safely take you to your hotel
